ASEAN jointly build an inclusive business support environment
On October 27, the 5th ASEAN Inclusive Business Summit with the theme "ASEAN working together to build an inclusive business enabling environment" was held in Seam Reap, Cambodia.
In his opening remarks, Cambodia's Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) Kitti Settha Pandita Cham Prasidh emphasized that inclusive entrepreneurship will effectively complement poverty reduction efforts on a large scale. The system, with its qualitative impact, can reach more women and young people, and contribute to job creation for economic development on a circular and innovative basis.
Minister Cham Prasidh said ASEAN has made many efforts to promote inclusive business in the region, and expressed hope that ASEAN will continue to promote this program and come up with more specific programs through through close collaboration with the private sector, including the ASEAN Business Advisory Council.
Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana affirmed that in addition to government action, the private sector plays important role in supporting economic recovery for a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient future. Among them, innovative business models such as inclusive business are emerging and shown to be able to provide goods, services and livelihoods to people.

CEO of the Inclusive Business Action Network (iBAN) Christian Jahn said ASEAN is being seen as a global pioneer and an inspiration to promote inclusive business. The promotion of inclusive business is also gaining momentum worldwide, contributing towards transforming the global socio-ecological market.
Meanwhile, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Regional Head for South and Southeast Asia Alexander Bohmer said that inclusive business and the promotion of social entrepreneurship are important foundations for sustainable future. In addition to a transparent and predictable business environment, policies to mitigate financial risks can serve as an important driver of investment for inclusive business.
For his part, Oxfam Asia Regional Director John Samuel affirmed that inclusive business will contribute to eradicating poverty and improving the living conditions of people working through the value chain while ensuring sustainability. of the enterprise. Micro, small and medium enterprises in the region need support to adopt and strengthen inclusive business practices.
The 5th ASEAN Inclusive Business Summit was organized by MISTI in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat, ESCAP, iBAN, OECD and Oxfam. Within the framework of this event, the ASEAN Inclusive Business Award 2022 was also awarded to 10 businesses that excel in adhering to inclusive business concepts and creating good socio-economic impacts.
